Espresso coffee is all about big things in small packages. Although we tend to think of shots as only acceptable after 5 pm, espresso shots can be enjoyed at any time of the day.
What is Espresso?
Espresso uses water under pressure to generate a cup of concentrated coffee. Espresso is made from the same coffee beans as regular coffee, but it is served in small 1-ounce shots rather than 8 ounces. A typical 1-ounce shot of espresso will contain 47 – 64 mg of caffeine. In comparison, drip coffee contains 95 – 165 mg of caffeine in an 8-ounce cup.
Benefits of Espresso Coffee
Drinking a shot of espresso is an easy way to get your caffeine kick without drinking an entire cup of coffee. A shot of espresso is a healthier alternative to the sugary coffee drinks offered at coffee shops.
Espresso also has a richer and creamier consistency than coffee. It will contain all the same flavors as coffee only amplified, therefore starting off with a high-quality espresso grind is important for the final flavor. Lavie Coffee uses only the highest quality coffee beans in our grinds. Start off with a high quality espresso grind to get the most flavor out of your espresso.
How to Brew Espresso
Espresso is best made using an espresso machine. Espresso machines cost as little as $100 for a basic model or hundreds of dollars for a higher-end machine. The process of making espresso requires a fine-grind coffee that is uniform in size. Ground coffee that is not uniform in size will result in over-extracted espresso, because the water will not evenly flow through the entire puck. Lavie Coffee has espresso grinds that are ground in small batches to ensure they are as uniform in size as possible.
Using your espresso grind, you will make a puck for your espresso machine. You will load the puck of espresso, as well as water, into the machine. The machine will force the water under pressure through the puck of ground coffee until the 1-ounce shot of coffee is created.
Lavie Coffee has coffee beans that pack a punch. Our espresso grinds will knock you off your feet because they are packed full of natural flavors and aromas. Look no further than Lavie Coffee if you need a sustainably sourced espresso grind.
