Imagine waking up in the morning to the smell of freshly ground coffee. The tantalizing aroma of freshly ground coffee beans excites you for the cup of coffee you’re about to enjoy. However, what do you do when you wake up to discover that your coffee grinder is on the fritz?
Why Purchase Whole Bean Coffee?
Grinding your own beans makes the coffee grind as fresh as possible. As ground coffee sits over time, it loses its natural gases and oils. These gases and oils are what give coffee its characteristic flavor. Purchasing pre-ground coffee is excellent for convenience, but it loses out on all the nuanced flavors in your cup of joe. Our roast masters at Lavie Coffee recommend our high-quality coffee beans for a burst of unimaginable flavor in each cup.
Ways to Grind Coffee Beans Without a Grinder
Do not stress if you are in a situation without a coffee grinder. There are several ways to grind your beans without a traditional coffee grinder:
- Blend it Up
A blender or food processor is just as capable of grinding coffee beans. It may be a pain to lug out the blender for a couple of tablespoons of coffee, but it will suffice if you are in a bind. A blender is not ideal for grinding coffee because it will not create evenly sized coffee grounds. It can also cook the coffee beans if you leave it blending for too long. Use short spurts on the pulse setting to grind coffee when using a blender.
- Rolling Pin
If you find yourself without a blender or a coffee grinder, a rolling pin and a plastic bag are enough to grind your coffee beans into a coarse grind. Place your coffee beans into a plastic bag and use the rolling pin to grind them down. This method will take several minutes, so plan in advance.
- Mortar and Pestle
Not all kitchens come equipped with a mortar and pestle. If you are one of the lucky few with this piece of equipment, it makes an excellent choice for grinding coffee. A mortar and pestle can grind coffee down to a very fine size.
No matter which option you use to grind your coffee beans, starting with high-quality beans is essential. The beans at Lavie Coffee are sustainably sourced, high-quality coffee beans. Check out our full selection of coffee beans at Lavie Coffee.
